So Saturday I awoke (not hungover! Heck yes!), and for the first time ever, I had absolutely no idea what costume to wear. I'm always the kind of cosplayer to schedule exactly when I'm going to don a costume well in advance, but Cliff isn't, so I dropped my schedule in order to be more flexible (so I'd actually get to wear my costumes with him). He mentioned not wanting to do Monarch early in the day, so I suggested we go ahead and get Prince Phillip and Briar Rose over with- so we did. Anyway, we woke up at about 10 to noise from below-- turns out, we had an AWESOME view of the Dragon*con parade from our balcony! We watched most of it, then decided to nap since we'd been out since 5 am the night before. I don't remember when we woke up and got dressed, but I think we didn't make it back to the con (especially since free food was available 20 feet from our room) until 5 pm. AGAIN. Note to self: staying out til 5am is not worth missing a good chunk of daylight at Dragon*con.

Honestly, I don't remember as many details on Saturday, so I'm just skipping to the pictures! )

And that ends Part 2: Saturday. Part 3 will conclude my Dragon*con report with both Day 3 and Day 4.

That's a somewhat inauspicious subtitle for a con...

So, AX. This year. Had its highs and lows. The obvious high? Mother fucking Morning Musume. The obvious low? Masquerade fail. However, my love for MM completely outweighs my disgust for how we were treated backstage, so all in all, I would still call this year pretty amazing, even if I did leave AX with a kind of "Goodbye, biggest animu con in the nation! Peace out! I'm finally over you!" kind of feeling. But, that might have just been inevitable after 5 years of attendance anyway, who knows?

Pre-con shenanigans with Daisy )

So, then sleep. And the next day, we headed into the con (which took way longer than it should have, due to the shitfest that is LA traffic), I picked up my badge and Momusu tickets, met Peter, and retired to the room to finish mixing the skit, which I did. Strangely enough, the auto-tune plug-in that I installed should have totally expired (it's supposed to be a 10-day trial of a $400 plug-in), and it hasn't yet. Awesome, right?? :D I actually had asked my friend Christina Vee to record lines for Ranka, then I decided to have Mer re-record them instead because Christina's rendition sounded a bit too bratty-Skuld-voice for my tastes. I felt bad because I begged her super last minute, and I wanted to have the skit before the con, but since I didn't, and Mer had access to my mic now... well... XD;;;

Anyway, more about that later. Day 1 was the day that Mer and I decided to wear casual Ranka and Sheryl, and wear our Buono! outfits despite the decision to forego PopShock due to all of AX's stupid scheduling mistakes.

Photos from Day One! + The Momusu Panel! )

Later that night, I got THE CALL from Leonard. The one asking me if I was interested in doing the Meet the Guests breakfast in the morning, where Morning Musume would be present. YES. YES, I WOULD. So I did. And at was awesome. My adventures are chronicled on youtube because I believe only a blog could capture my excitement and faggotry.

No, really, I'm an enormous faggot.

So, as I mentioned...

Day 2 was Morning Musume day! )

So just like that, the final day was upon us. Downtrodden and with not as much energy as before, Mer and I donned our final costumes for the weekend, Moka and Mizore. The response to which was... to say the least, NOT QUITE WHAT I EXPECTED...

DAY FOUR: AKA, WHY THE FUCK ARE THESE COSTUMES SO POPULAR? DAY )

So that was AX! Masquerade sucked, but Morning Musume rocked my face off! And my friends are awesome. :D

After the con, I went back to Daisy's to spend a few more nights with her. Epic fun times were had, even though I missed my annual theme park visit. ;_; Oh, well, didn't really have the funds for it anyway! XD;; And of course, on my last night, a group of us all went out and did karaoke together~. My voice was COMPLETELY GONE from the Momusu panel + concert, but I still attempted to rock out because that's just what I do. Koda Kumi comes REALLY NATURALLY when I have no voice. LOL Does anyone have pictures?? All I have is this:

Two pictures from Little Tokyo )

On my way home, we actually flew over the Grand Canyon! I've never been, so this was epic! I took pictures.

The Grand Canyon from a few thousand feet overhead )

And as you (may?) already know, I will not be attending Anime Expo 2010 next year, because I will be at San Diego Comic Con with my boyfriend instead. Let's hope it doesn't disappoint!

BITCHES CAN'T STOP ME! I'M ON A ROLL!

So for those who don't know, Anime Alabama was Marc Yu's (director of Anime South) attempt to bring lower Alabama its first anime con, and from my perspective, it was a GREAT success! So many congoers told us how happy and grateful they were to have a con in their area, and for most of them, it was their first! Although the likelihood of AniAl happening next year is slim, I still think its many attendees can say it was a great experience for them and they would be more than happy to go again.

Ballin' con report behind this pimp LJ-cut! )

So that was the first (and last?) Anime Alabama! Unless Marc decides to give it one more year. Or someone else takes the reign. In either case, I am so down with playing Cosplay Director again if Marc/new-Director-san will let me. ^_^

This con report is told in mostly caption-narrative style. I left out a few of the more embarassing details, mostly for the sake of Cliff's pride. )

So that was Momocon. I apologize to anyone who had to meet Cliff in that state, so here's hoping that you've had a chance to meet him sober since then! XDDD BLAME THE KITTIES.

THIS IS AN NYAF REPORT, KINDA

I say "kinda" because honestly, there's not much to report... I didn't cosplay Friday or Sunday, and most of the pictures, I look pretty dreadful, between all my DURP faces and that wig just looking RETARDED on me. Glad I styled a new one for Anime South. @_@ Now if only I could sell the old one...

On Thursday, D and I flew into New York late at night and were picked up by Kat, who took us on the Subway to her apartment, but not before a glorious late-night (See: 3 AM) McDonald's visit!

lol Friday. )

WCS, Oh shit. )

The next day, Diana flew back to Florida, and since my flight wasn't until several hours later, Kat and I ran and got lunch together at one of her favorite spots ('TWAS DELICIOUS~ Mmmm...) and then went to a cheap wig store where I bought my wig for my Falsetto costume that shall ONE DAY BE REALIZED. (See wig here!) Then I said my goodbyes to Kat and flew back to Alabama, where a week later, professors would be lying in wait to pounce and tell me that I was on probation in the BFA program for having priorities outside the theatre. GREAT semester last year, lemme tell ya.

If anyone is wondering about whether or not Diana and I are doing WCS again this year, we're still talking about it. We both said we'll only do it if we can come up with a really good idea (by AX) or else, why bother? I know I certainly don't won't to waste another $700, only to lose again. Then I REALLY could have bought a ticket to Japan with the $1400 I lost trying to win one. And I don't want to put that kind of money into cosplay and competitions these days, anyway.

IT IS TIME.

So this will pretty much be the quickest and most boring con report I've ever written- especially considering it was the first con I attended after turning 21! I didn't wear any new costumes, I only cosplayed Friday and Saturday, and we didn't enter the costume contest. Pretty much, the only reason D and I didn't skip this con to instead finish our WCS costumes was because we needed the excuse to get together and practice, and the idea of doing it at a con with friends in a huge hotel with inexpensive suite rooms and free breakfast seemed like a DAMN good idea. And it was! Diana and I sat down and choreographed our skit and memorized all that we needed to memorize. So aside from rehearsing a skit for the NEXT con, the only interesting thing we DID do was an epic photoshoot with Lionel on the roof of a parking garage with my Explorer. Awesome times were had. So, let's start with Thursday!

Thursday night was AWESOME, because Diana drove up to Auburn so we could ride to Atlanta together the next day. We went to one of my favorite restaurants (Chappy's! ...I think??? Or was it Brick Oven? LOL OH WELL, BOTH ROCK.), then afterwards, we made a trip to Walmart to acquire arms for our epic Black Lagoon photoshoot on Saturday. I bought myself the second Beretta that I needed to paint (I already had one), and we might have also purchased foam swords and Batman masks, too, for shits and giggles. :3 Unfortunately, we never used them in the photoshoot. :(

The shortest Friday summary EVER. )

The next day, D and I got breakfast, then changed into Roberta and Revy and headed to the con where I met up with Mary to give our make-up panel. Unfortunately, my brilliant idea to cut my tattoo out of electrical tape and stick it on my arm on the walk there was NOT so brilliant and instead, rather fail. Nevertheless, I think our make-up panel went well, and I wouldn't mind doing it again! After an unsuccessful attempt to find food that we wanted at the con, we decided to head back to our hotel room to change, then eat at the Honeybaked Ham in the shopping mall by the Embassy. After that, we changed back into Revy and Roberta and I drove to pick up Lionel at the con, then to our photoshoot location. And here are the results of that photoshoot! (With commentary.)

Revy vs. Roberta Photoshoot: Ready... DUEL! )

And Sunday, we chilled. It was nice. I also dropped $50 on a black Innocent wig so I wouldn't have to kill myself trying to weft the black wig I already bought for Himawari in less than a week when my costume still wasn't done. XD;;; That said, please buy it! I'd love to get even a little bit back on the ridiculous amount of money I put into this costume.

If you missed it, don't forget to check out my Dragon*con '08 report!

Dragon*con 2008 was possibly the most epic con I have ever been to. I thought meeting Shokotan was exciting, but fangirling over the cast of BSG and other stars was so incredibly awesome it hurt (literally, Adama-papa had us screaming like stark-raving lunatics at the TCF Party). Unfortunately for you all, I have a pretty damn good memory, so this again will be a photo dump full of all the shit that I can still recall from 6 months ago. WOOH!!! Including the not-so-exciting story of how I met my boyfriend. :D

So this was my first time arriving at D*C on Thursday, and I have to say... why? We didn't actually DO anything, or see anyone (aside from each other), or party or even get into costume earlier on Friday! Katie, do you still want to stay Thursday night? Because Lord knows I'd rather save the money!

Onto Friday!

Day 1: There are twelve models. I'm number Six. )
Day 2: Pink hair, tan skin. Lots of skin. )
Day 3: I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream! )
Day 4: ...Who cosplays on Monday? Honestly! )

All in all, Dragon*con 2008 pretty much ranks as the best con I have ever been to. Even though I got pulled over and ticketed on the way home (BY A BSG-LOVING STATE TROOPER, YOU GUYS, TRUE STORY.), it was totally worth it. I got to hang out and room with my bff and other awesome ladies (who baked us goodies!!), I got to geek out over NON-animu things for a change, got to party with stars from one of my favorite new series, and oh yeah, I met my future boyfriend! Oh yeah. Good con.

Soooo... Anime Expo. Con report/photo dump. SUPER IMAGE-HEAVY. SUE ME. LET'S DO THIS.

(Can you tell that Cliff went out of town this weekend? It's totally why I'm getting shit done.)

I'm going to skip all the foreplay and go right into DAY ONE.

Day One: Hello! Pro Day )
Day Two: This was not a good day. )
Day Three: Black Lagoon = drama?? )
Day Four: SHOKOTANSHOKOTANSHOKOTAN )

Never before have I been so thrilled that a con was over. Usually, I'm all depressed and melancholy on the last day, wishing it would never end but this year? I was like "THANK FUCKING GOD." Yeah, that? Sucks. That's NOT how cons should be. I'm not giving up on AX, yet, but let's just say this: if 2009 is as stressful as 2008, I may never venture out to another non-local con again. NO PRESSURE, 2009. NO PRESSURE.

This picture captures my AX experience, I think. Thanks, Erik. XD

So Anime Boston... was 7 months ago. NEW RECORD!! Sorry, gaiz. But if you read this con report, I promise lots of boobs lots of never-before-seen pictures to make up for it!

So Anime Boston 2008 marked the first time that I ever pulled a total all-nighter for cosplay... or anything, for that matter. The night before Thursday, I kept sewing straight until 7 am, when I went and woke my brother so we could grab some McDs for breakfast before driving to Atlanta for my early flight. Which was awesome, btw, because it was a direct flight and there was no one in the seat next to me! :D

Day 0: Flight + pre-con shenanigans )

ZETSUBOUSHITA! Friday! )

OMGoddess, It's Saturday! )

Sunday??? )

So all in all, Anime Boston wasn't all bad. It wasn't particularly GREAT, but I think I got to hang out with my friends more than I usually do at cons lately. I know I won't be going back, though. I told myself that after the disaster that was mixing the skit at the last minute, I would NEVER do that again, and then Anime Expo happened... HA, I'M COOL. At least I made a significant improvement for NYAF, which hopefully means AX 09 will be even more successful in that area, ya know? Alright, that's all I got. Peace out, kids! AX report coming up next!

So there was this con called Momocon. It's pretty small and I didn't bother to enter the contest and at one point, we were all trapped inside as a tornado warning swept across Atlanta, but hey, I don't judge, and I still had a pretty good time seeing friends I wouldn't get to see otherwise. Not to mention I got to do some of my favorite things which was terrible karaoke (in the form of Rock Band), staying with Mary and John at Ashley and Daniel's, and cosplaying with friends (especially Nana with Mer <3).

So on Friday I drove to Columbus (this time a little more successfully than the last), but I was definitely a few hours later than planned... this worked out for the best however, because if we HAD left for Atlanta on time, we would have become good friends with the tornado that ripped through the city a few hours before we drove through it! :D

Saturday stuff! )
Sunday stuff! )

So, soon after that, we left the con and met up with everyone again and I realized that I had accidentally left my normal shoes (and my... cell phone >_>) at Mer's place, so... I was kinda forced to either wear boots with thigh highs and garters (making me look like a hooker) or boots without socks (UGHHHHHH!!!! KILL ME.). I was totally up for the thigh-highs, but no one else wanted to walk around with a hooker, so black boots without socks it was... until I realized I had a third shoe option.... MY YOKO BOOTS!!! Since I was wearing a jean skirt, it totally seemed less awkward to me to pair it with white, flame-decorated boots than black ones. I also scrunched down my Chidori socks so that was no longer a problem. This made me lol, so I took a picture of it:

Secretly, I was hoping we would encounter some anime fan on the street who would go "HEY, are those YOKO boots?" and I could be like "LOL YEAH!!" but it didn't happen. In fact, it would probably never happen anywhere but at a con, though I am thinking of wearing them on the flight to LA for AX. Ya never know!

I'm really pumped about Memorial Day weekend because Mer, Matt, Ashley, Daniel Mary, John and Patrick are all coming to Gulf Shores and renting a condo! :3333 CANNOT WAIT. One thing I'm NOT pumped about though is the job hunt. Blockbuster is overstocked with employees, Andree's wasn't hiring, and Wintzell's is remodeling and looks all funky so I don't want to go back down there. In fact, I reeeeally don't want to work in the food service industry at all. @_@ But I need money. BAD. *continues the hunt* Expect some sales coming up soon.

SOOOoooooo ACE. Was fun. A+++ would do again. It was basically a very, very, very mini-Dragon*con, if D*C were only about comics and only locals cared. Yeah. XD It was also a fabulous excuse to see my lovelies, [info]vampirate777, [info]koneko, [info]micarei, [info]pinkheartsunset, and [info]notusachan. It was also a weekend o' FREE because John and Daniel took pity on my poor, broke ass all weekend and bought me delicious food. Damn my lucky friends and their gentlemanly SOs! ;_;

Alright, so here's what happened: we got there, Mary, Ashley and I grabbed passes for the day, the guys left, we ran into our friends, signed up for the contest, toured the dealer's room (didn't buy anything except for some pocky that I got for the discounted price of one dollar! :D), went to get judged, were photographed, went on stage, won $75, was photographed some more, then left. AWESOME, huh??? It was like getting paid to cosplay and see friends. NICE. I doubt I'll be as lucky next year, but I'm willing to try again. I might take this as my opportunity to enter Aurora in a contect OR make a She-Ra costume. We shall see...

Picture time!

The only part of this report behind a cut... photographic evidence that it happened! I apologize. These pictures are.... kinda behg. ....Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, by the way, betch.... )

That night, we all went out to eat at this nice Mexican place where we all got free dessert because the waiter said he liked me. ;D (AKA, he felt sorry for me because I was the 7TH WHEEL. LOL) It made for a good celebration for Mary and I winning 2nd and 3rd, respectively. :D

So there ya go! Shortest con report EVER. I had more to say about freaking MOBICON. lol

As for a life update: today we had BFA tech auditions. Four other sophomores and I tried out, two stage managers, a scene painter, and a techie (and myself on costumes! ...I feel like I just listed the instruments we play in a band. XD), I reeeeally hope we all get in. We all probably should, as we have our ducks in a row. Though Mrs. Tracy definitely looked at me like I was DAMN CRAZY when I rolled in Yuuko on a dressform... I hope that was more a look of shock then "WTF WERE YOU THINKING, KATIE?"

P.S. I broke my computer chair in yet another area (stripped the screws out of the bottom) and because I like to sit on my chair in weird ways, I've fallen out of it and onto the ground like, 4 times now. Onto my ceramic tile floors. It HUUUUUUUUURTS. I need a new computer chair NAO.

P.P.S. This week, I need to hem a bridesmaid's skirt, finish sewing Mer's wedding present, finish Gundam Wing so I can return it to Ashley, clean my apartment for when Diana comes over, and all the while do shittons of homework. Thus, my LJing might be sparse... dare I say, a hiatus? I'll respond to the comments on this because they're emailed to me, but I won't be checking entries if I can help it. So peace out, cats!

Sorry it took so long! But these days, less than 2 months is an impressive feat for me. lol And you'll want to read this because I HAVE MOAR PICTURES THAN THE KATSUCON PEOPLE!!

Friday - Day One - FMP! Day )

Saturday - Day Two - Happy Berry Day )

Sunday - Day Three - AVATARD Day )

After that, we changed into civs, and went out to eat at Panera (though I HAD to stop at a gas station for Diet Coke because Pepsi products = the scum of the earth). After eating and checking the internet on Nathan's iphone, we parted ways, and thinking I would see my girls in 2 weeks at AUSAM-Con, I wasn't sad about the con ending. Though, when Diana gave me an unusually long hug, I did not realize that it was because Nathan was pretending to spank me as I bended over for the amusement of the patrons who were watching us say our goodbyes through the windows at Panera. (HOLYCRAPSOMANYPREPOSITIONALPHRASES) Ahhh, good tiemz. See you guys at Anime South 2008! (Karen, leave that bf at home!! Room with us again!! <333)

SO THERE YA GO! I finally posted it! Now if I only I could go back in time and finish editing my Starfire shoot and HP photoshoot in ATL. Gaaah. XD;;

In my humble, biased opinion, AUSAM-con definitely lived up to its phonetic name. I had a REALLY good time, even if 90% of it was spent in one room. lol For starters, I'll begin with pre-con Friday.

I got out of class at 10 AM (which is fricking SWEET), came home, and cleaned in prep for company/watched Fruits Basket. Sometime in the early afternoon, [info]auburnkt arrived and we made a Walmart run, in which we both forgot to buy a few things we went there specifically for. XD I really do enjoy Walmart runs with friends.... grocery shopping, not so much, but Walmart runs are fun! Anyway, we got back, and chilled in my apartment, chatting and waiting for [info]vampirate777 to get there. She arrived and when we heard from Tiffany that she probably would either be getting in late or the next day, we went ahead and left to eat at Niffer's. Niffer's was packed, so we went to Acapulco's instead. Good food was good! Good times were had!

That night, Mary and I worked on the Powerpoint for our cosplay panel the next day and watched Fresh Prince (the now official show of all my cosplay late nights!). We finished it and then chatted and went to bed at about 3... and I was in bed at 4 after my shower. @_@

The morning started out with a bit of a mishap... )

The most dreaded part of the day... THE COSPLAY WORKSHOP... )

Costume Contest Judging )

The Costume Contest... )
